The Italian Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020 will host Snam, one of the world's leading energy infrastructure companies.Snam will be Silver Sponsor at Expo Dubai 2020, which started on October 1st. Snam - under Marco Alverà's lead - represents one of the most relevant energy infrastructure companies in the world and one of the largest Italian listed companies. In the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020, Snam actively supported communication projects about the ESG (environmental, social and governance) factors, also related to COP26.
Snam's mission in Dubai
During Expo Dubai 2020, Snam shared its commitment to the energy transition and the territories sustainable development. The group is currently investing in network innovation to move renewable gas like biomethane and hydrogen and reach zero carbon dioxide emissions in 2040. Moreover, Snam's commitment also covers energy efficiency, sustainable mobility and urban forestry.
Celebrating Italian innovation
Snam's commitment, as Silver Sponsor, is to "celebrate the Italian innovation" and show how to achieve new goals, such as carbon neutrality in 2040, following the ESG strategy. Among Italian initiatives at Expo 2020, there is also the "Hydrogen Pasta". Manufactured in Contursi Terme (Salerno), this is the first experiment in employing hydrogen in a gas network - supervised by Snam precisely by serving a pasta factory.
Snam and hydrogen management for sustainable projects
"Hydrogen Pasta" is only one of Snam's projects. The company has launched several activities, such as a plan for emissions reduction in the glass industry, in partnership with RINA, Bormioli Luigi, Bormioli Rocco, Stara Glass, University of Genoa, Stazione Sperimentale del Vetro, IFRF Italia, SGRPRO and RJC SOFT.
The goal of the "Divina" project (Decarbonizzazione dell'Industria del Vetro: Idrogeno e Nuove Attrezzature) is reducing emissions in the glass melting phase, which amounts to 50% of the total energy consumption throughout the production process. For this reason, hydrogen can be a solution to reduce emissions.
